Best Candidates
Your dental bite and alignment are determined by many factors: if you sucked your thumb as a child, hereditary traits, losing a tooth or several teeth, or an injury to your jaw. The misalignment of your teeth may cause other oral health problems, such as dental malocclusion (a bad bite), abnormal enamel wear, trouble speaking and chewing, as well as toothaches and TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder). If your dental team notices one of these concerns during your dental exam, we may recommend an orthodontic treatment, like Invisalign®.
Clear Invisalign® aligners are good for both adults and teens who want straighter teeth without the hassle and appearance of metal braces. Even though they do need to be worn most of the time, Invisalign® can be taken out to brush your teeth and eat, as well as for special events and playing sports. Far more discreet than metal braces, other people usually will not be able to tell that you are wearing your Invisalign®.
What to Expect
Once we have created your treatment plan, your first Invisalign® trays will be created using digital impressions taken at our office. Once they are sent to our office, we will contact you to receive your first aligners and instructions from one of our skilled doctors. You need to wear your aligners every day for at least 20 hours for the treatment to work, ideally only taking them out to brush your teeth and eat. After about two weeks, you will move to the next set of aligners as they gently move your teeth closer to proper alignment. You will need to schedule appointments every 4 – 6 weeks to have the fit of your aligners checked and have more digital impressions taken that will be sent to Invisalign® so they can make your new aligners. The length of time that you will use Invisalign® will vary based on the original position of your teeth and your cosmetic goals, but most patients wear aligners for an average of a year.
Treatment Aftercare
As soon as you have completed your last set of trays and your bite is aligned, it's important to allow time for your gums and jaw to adjust to the new position of your teeth. Invisalign® Vivera® retainers are specially made to hold your teeth in place after your complete your final set of aligning trays. Each retainer will be specially made for you at the Invisalign® dental laboratory based on digital impressions taken at our office. We will tell you how often to wear your retainer and how to care for it once it is returned to our facility from the Invisalign® dental lab. Your dentist will continue to assess your alignment and bite at your annual dental exams.
The MINT Commitment
Usually, some of the cost your Invisalign® treatment is covered if you have insurance. Our front office will confirm your benefits and calculate your costs. Our office takes several payment methods for patients who don't have dental insurance. During your consultation, your dentist can discuss estimates and ways to make your treatment easier to afford, including flexible payment plans and medical financing.
